Following Grosvenor’s last charity distance challenge update back in early October, the team have collectively got their running and hiking boots on and smashed the distance challenge target more than one month early!
As a quick recap of the challenge, the idea was to form a team to walk, run or cycle a distance of 14,000km (8,699 miles) before the end of 2021, and to get each member of the team to track their distance on a fitness app to help track progress. The distance is the equivalent of trekking from London to Kathmandu and back!
On Tuesday 6th July, challenge leader, Matt Tolliday, reported that the team had so far achieved a distance of 6,191km which was an incredible effort! The distance achieved was roughly the equivalent of trekking from London to Karachi, Pakistan.
On Tuesday 12th October, the team continued to dominate, with an astounding new total of 12,514km covered. For context, 12,514 kms is roughly the equivalent of trekking from London to the Falkland Islands.
Fast forward to Tuesday 9th November and the team have now completed the challenge, collectively covering a further 1,573 kms. Which means we’ve exceeded the collective target of 14,000 kms as we have accrued 14,086 kms. 1,573 kms is roughly the equivalent of London to Istanbul. 14,086 kms is of course the equivalent of London to Kathmandu and back….plus a little bit more!
With the good news that the team have now exceeded the target of 14,000 kms, it would be good to see how much further the team can go. With the average distance each month being just over 2,000 kms, GWM could be approaching 18,000 kms by the end of the year.
Grosvenor is supporting the charity, MIND, as mental health issues have been exacerbated over the past 12 months by the Covid 19 lockdown and health worries for many people. The charity provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. MIND campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. They will not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
So far the Grosvenor team have raised £1,714 including the company’s generous matching. So, if you haven’t sponsored us yet we would really appreciate you getting behind us.
