At Grosvenor Wealth Management, our team never backs down from a challenge. We continue to think of new and exciting ways to support the local community and/or national charities. Throughout the Covid 19 pandemic, Independent Financial Adviser, Andrew Willis, came up with an idea to help raise funds for the charity MIND. He was keen to make it as challenging as possible, so a plan was pieced together to make this idea a reality.
The idea was to form a team to walk, run or cycle a distance of 14,000km (8,699 miles) before the end of 2021, and to get each member of the team to track their distance on a fitness app to help track progress. What a challenge! That’s the equivalent of trekking from London to Kathmandu and back!
Andrew discussed the idea with Matt Tolliday, Jack Brown and Scott Murray. After pitching his plan, he won them over and formed “The Cricket Boys”. This name was selected because they all enjoy watching the cricket and also went to watch England play Pakistan together at the Oval. Matt has committed to walk/run/cycle 2,000kms (1,242m), Scott 3,000kms (1,864m), Andrew 3,000kms (1,864m) and Jack will cycle 6,000kms (3,728m).
This is double what was initially planned and is the equivalent of 16.4km every single day for Jack, 8.2km for Andrew and Scott, and 5.4km for Matt, making it a real challenge. The short daylight hours throughout the winter whilst working makes it especially difficult, added to the Covid 19 restrictions. Some of the team are already a bit behind but all will encourage each other to achieve the distance challenge.
Unfortunately, several medical issues have slowed down the team, but it hasn’t stopped the progress. Throughout the Spring months, Matt took over the management of the fundraising and turned the challenge into a free-for-all company approach challenge, allowing more of the Grosvenor team to contribute and maximise the walking, running and cycling efforts.
Since we are now halfway through the year, it’s a good time to report on the current progress of the Grosvenor distance challenge. On Tuesday 6th July, Matt reported that the team have so far achieved a distance of 6,191km which is an incredible effort! The distance achieved so far is roughly the equivalent of trekking from London to Karachi.
Grosvenor wanted to support the charity, MIND, as mental health issues have been exacerbated over the past 12 months by the Covid 19 lockdown and health worries for many people. MIND is a mental health charity that believes no one should ever have to face a mental health problem alone. The charity provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. MIND campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. They will not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
So far the Grosvenor team have raised just under £1,714 including the company’s generous matching. So, if you haven’t sponsored us yet we would really appreciate you getting behind us.
